Caths response to BBC Panorama
As shown on “Drinking Our Rivers Dry?” the McRobie family reduced their water consumption by almost 50%, from 443 litres to 227 litres a day. What the programme didn’t show was how they did it... In fact, none of the talking heads on the programme actually mentioned the important role that behaviour change can have on reducing water stress in the UK and yet it is free, has virtually no environmental disadvantages, and empowers the individual. Cath Hassell appearing on BBC's Panorama
Cath is appearing on "Drinking Our Rivers Dry?" on Monday 19th Sept 8.30 pm on the BBC1.
About the Programme: Demand for water in some parts of England is so close to outstripping supply that we now have our first desalination plant, a last resort to keep the taps of the capital flowing in an emergency. Most of our water comes from rivers, and environmentalists fear we are pushing some of them and the wildlife they support to the edge.
With fears over climate change and population growth, Simon Boazman investigates whether the water industry and its regulators are doing enough to protect the nation's rivers.
